Chhusang

Set deep in the Kali Gandaki canyon, the village of Chhusang is surrounded by gigantic red, orange and silver gray cliffs spotted with cave dwellings. It is an active farming community and a fairly large settlement inhabited mostly by a mixed ethnic group of Gurungs, Thakalis and some families from the land of Lo. Notice the piles of split wood on the flat roofs of the old stone houses. The layered logs serve twin purpose: during rains and snow they prevent the water from seeping into the homes, besides adding to the beauty of the homes.
