The Church of St. Thomas, Stanhope The base of the broad, rather short W tower, with characteristic windows on the ground floor and first floor, is Norman. Above, pointed twin bell-openings with an Early English shaft (c. 1190-1250). The battlements probably still later. {Pevsner
