Church of the Assumption

In 1786, the Roman Catholic community of Luala Kedah (a state north of Penang) relocated to Penang on the eve of the Feast of the Assumption. Father Garnault established the Church of the Assumption at Church Street. The present church building on Lebuh Farquhar started service in 1861. The church was elevated to the Cathedral of the Diocese of Penang in 1955.
