First Bangor Presbyterian Church Presbyterian church in Main Street. The main body of the church was constructed in 1831 with the tower and steeple added in 1881 and the portico in 1928. Presbyterianism in Bangor appears to have began with the arrival of a Robert Blair from Ayrshire in 1623 during the plantation of Ulster. Originally he was installed in the Parish Church but his heretical preaching was to lead to a split from the Episcopal church. Presbyterianism had taken hold, however, and the first church was built in Fisher's Hill (now Victoria Road) in 1660.
