The Agnesberg (395 m above sea level) is situated around Wernigerode Castle. The forest in the foreground is part of the protected landscape area "Harz und Vorländer", the special area of conservation (habitats directive) "Laubwaldgebiet zwischen Wernigerode und Blankenburg" and of the special protected (bird) area "Vogelschutzgebiet zwischen Wernigerode und Blankenburg".
