Mangere Presbyterian Church

This quaint church, in late "timber Gothic" (note the medium, rather than high roof pitch), was built in 1874. The date is displayed within the decorative feature on the upper front facade. It is scheduled for protection by Manukau City. According to the book Historic buildings in Manukau City, by Manukau City Council, 1980, illustrated by Andrew Hall, the church was constructed for $440 on a site donated by Mr. Robert Wallace. Prominent members of the church gave their names to roads in the locality, including Wallace, Massey and Kirkbride. W. F. Massey was a former prime minister and the Rev Mr. Kirkbride led his flock from this church for a period.
