Built in 1919, this Byzantine Revival-style building was designed by Worthmann and Steinbach for the congregation of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, founded to serve the Ukrainian immigrant community in the Back of the Yards neighborhood. The building remained in use by the Ukrainian Greek Catholic congregation until 1992, when the congregation moved to a new church in suburban Palos Park, and the building was sold to the congregation of the Apostolic House Of Prayer. The building is clad in red brick with roman arched bays, a hipped roof, seven rooftop towers with onion domes and Orthodox crosses, the largest of which features roman arched windows and a large lantern, decorative patterned brickwork, terra cotta trim, a Greek Cross footprint, a circular window over the front entrance, and arched gables at the central bays of the front and side facades. The building today serves the Apostolic House Of Prayer congregation and the congregation of the Iglesia Pentecostal Unida de Chicago Illinois, and has visible signs of significant roof problems, with rusted, long unpainted towers and tarps atop the roof, which leave the future of the building uncertain and likely in jeopardy.
