The octagonal building in the foreground is the Third Church of Christ, Scientist (1971) that was located at 900 16th Street, Northwest in downtown Washington, D.C.. Across the small plaza to the right is an office building built as part of the project, and originally used by The Christian Science Monitor. The buildings and plaza were designed by Araldo Cossutta of I.M Pei & Partners. The church building is an example of brutalist ecclesiastical architecture. It was demolished in 2014. The building located behind the church is 1625 Eye Street, an example of postmodern architecture and currently the 20th tallest building in Washington, D.C. Its 2009 property value is $252,285,000.
